We are pleased to welcome Carl Frischling, Aviva Grossman, Alex Alberstadt, and Mark Parise as members of Perkins Coie’s Investment Management practice. Most readers of this blog will recognize Carl Frischling, named as a Senior Statesman by Chambers USA and as a leading lawyer by the Legal 500. Carl is the recipient of Fund Directions’ “Independent Counsel of the Year Award” and “Lifetime Achievement Award,” and he was named one of the “Visionaries of the Modern Mutual Fund Industry” by Strategic Insight.

Aviva brings over 35 years of experience to our practice. She is an alumna of the SEC’s Division of Investment Management and brings a wealth of experience in dealing with complex investment management issues. In her practice, Aviva advises the independent directors of major fund complexes and represents investment advisers and registered funds. She offers counsel on fund formation, fund governance and regulatory requirements. Aviva also analyzes status issues and the availability of exemptions under the Investment Company Act. She has considerable experience in mergers, acquisitions and the restructuring of investment advisers and financial services companies.

Alex has represented investment funds and advisers for over 20 years on all types of regulatory and compliance matters. She counsels registered and unregistered investment advisers in the creation and operation of investment companies, including public and private entities, based domestically and offshore. In her corporate governance practice, Alexandra advises boards and independent directors of registered investment companies on various governance issues. She also helps New York nonprofits with governance, operations and compliance issues. In 2000, she received the “Commitment to Justice Award” from Her Justice.

For 15 years, Mark has advised clients on a variety of governance, regulatory compliance and transactional issues involving mutual funds, closed end funds, private equity and hedge funds. Mark acts as counsel to a wide scope of clients including independent directors , registered and unregistered funds and investment advisers. Mark has significant experience negotiating material service contracts and is well versed in the area of director and officer liability. Mark serves as an accredited representative of veterans before the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. He has also been honored by the New York State Bar Association as an Empire State Counsel Honoree for his pro bono efforts on behalf of veterans.
